mama

I've been repeating "mama" lots to Ethan to see if he just might start to say it. So far every time he even tries, it comes out "baba". Well, Ethan's been so sick the last couple of days, that when he says baba with a plugged nose it comes out a little differently. I asked him what a sheep says and he said "mama". I had to laugh that the first time I hear "mama" is when he is mimicking a sheep :)

standing and steps

Today, Ethan stood on his own! He was holding on to the couch where Steve was standing and then let go for a few seconds. When we started cheering and clapping, he was so proud of himself that he kept doing it and getting so excited about it! He was at the point after a few minutes that he was screaming at the top of his lungs each time he let go of the couch. So fun!!

The first steps actually happened earlier in the day. I was eating lunch and he was holding on to my finger and walking around, but I was sitting down so he wasn't getting far. He wanted to go to the door to the deck, so he took a few steps toward the door without my finger, and then didn't realize that he wasn't holding on to me until he got to the door. Then as we were sitting around with him later this evening, he decided that if he can stand on his own, he'd try some steps again, and just kept going! He walked all the way across the room on his own to get to daddy even. Way to go little guy!!

Another thing he's been doing a lot of lately is he's finally gotten up the nerve to go down the one step into our family room. I've been trying to teach him to go backward, and he'll do that if I put him into position. When he does it on his own he goes face first :) Oh well, it's only one step and he'll learn eventually.

And another fun thing he's cracks us up with is "dancing". If he hears music he'll start to boogie and if no one's really looking he can really get going. I caught him once almost head-banging and screaming to his new Bible song book, haha. I'll have to catch it on video sometime, that and the walking!!! I can't believe it, how did he get here so fast?!

Easter weekend

We're really excited around here for Easter this weekend. It will be a fun weekend filled with family and friends. And here are a few cute Ethan pictures in the mean time :)

never a dull moment around here

I let Ethan play with my cell phone when he wants to, as long as he doesn't put it in his mouth. I figure that if it's locked, the worst thing that he can do is break it somehow, since he can't make any phone calls... wrong! When it's locked, you can still make an emergency call fairly easily. Found that out this morning when I hear a woman's voice saying "hello? hello?" while he's playing with it and gabbering away. I grabbed it and realize that it says "emergency call connected". Explain that I let my son play with the phone and didn't mean to place the call. She asked if anyone was there coercing me to answer. Oh joy, no more phone for babies! I think that was his and my first 911 call :)

sticks, stones, and the newest fashion accessory

a pink headband, of course. He rips off any hat that I put on him, but whines when I try to get him to take off my pink headband, and constantly reaches up to make sure it's still on his head :) Oh well, to each his own!

Ethan's been seriously keeping me busy lately. He LOVES to practice walking, and can walk alongside me while only holding onto one hand. He will stand for a second or two on his own if he lets go and doesn't realize that he's not holding on, but once he realizes that he's on his own he sits down immediately and lets you know that he's not happy about it.

His favorite thing in the world right now is to be outside, and I don't blame him! It's so nice to finally be able to walk outdoors without layers and layers of clothes on. It's funny, every time the wind gusts though he yells "brrrr", you can tell he's been hearing me say that a lot this winter :) He also has picked up that "hot" means you have to blow. I told him not to touch a light, that it's hot. He started blowing at it and now blows at it each time he passes it.

I've also started to wonder just how I can keep him from eating the entire backyard. Every day he must put at least 10 rocks in his mouth, and chew on at least one stick. I know it won't kill him, but it sure makes me cringe to see him drooling dirt :)
