28

Yesterday was my 28th birthday. It was a great day. We had a few friends over for Memorial day, so that ended up being a little celebration time, and then yesterday Steve and I went out for dinner. So overall it's been a great week. Steve got me a surprise birthday present, a navigation unit for my car!! I've been mentioning it for a while, because every time we travel we pretty much drive and each trip I'm reminded of how useful it would be to have one. So I've been using it to get me around town the last few days (not really necessary, but I don't have any road trips planned and I have fun using it).

Next week is my first week of being unemployed. I'm hoping to get a few projects done around the house, and not get into the habit of sitting around all day :) We'll see how that goes!

changes

Next week is currently my last week of work. The position that I have is based on funding, which has run out. I am very thankful that my job has lasted as long as it has, and currently we would be fine without my salary, so those are definitely things to be thankful for. I am looking and applying to other positions as I find them, however they seem to be few and far between in our neck of the woods :) We'd appreciate any prayers as we think and make decisions about the future, and pass on any leads if you hear of any. We'll see what God has in store for me next!

funny and slightly embarrassing

Yesterday I was grabbing a few quick items from the grocery store on my way home from work. I noticed the lady in line behind me was struggling to hold all of her items so I offered to help and took an item from her before she dropped it and she readjusted what was in her arms. I exchanged a few words with her, and suddenly realized that I totally knew her from somewhere. However, I couldn't place her at all. As I started loading my stuff to be checked out she made the connection for me. It was my neighbor. How funny.

not much these days

The airline has said that it will take 45-60 days to get back to me about my items. Not surprising. I called our insurance agent because those types of things are covered under our home owners insurance, but as I expected, our deductible is greater than the amount lost so it wouldn't even be worth it to file a claim. We're resting on the airline to reimburse us.

Also, our backyard has yet to be finished from last summer when it was dug up to fix the basement leaks, and at this point in the year I think we'll recommend that they wait till fall to finish it so we don't spend our entire lives trying to keep the sod that they lay down from dying. So we've got several things in limbo currently.

Other than that, it's life as usual, which is a good thing :) We're hoping that sometime in June we'll be able to get away for a week or so to take a break.
