more funny stuff

Ethan has picked up the word "crap" from somewhere (it most definitely would never have been me! ;) ) and is using it quite a lot today. He isn't quite sure how to use it, but he's yelled "Oh crap" many times. I'm hoping that it's one that he'll forget and not use if he doesn't hear it again for a while. A good reminder to watch what I say.

He also was sitting on the washer as I put his boots on yesterday. I turned slightly to pick something up and he reached for the light switch. He almost fell face forward off the washer; as I caught him I said "holy moley" and he thought it was hilarious. He's been saying HOLY MOLEY! a lot now. He fell face first into his slide last night, and as he was crying he kept yelling "HOLY MOLEY! HOLY MOLEY!" which was really hard not to laugh at.

Another funny one he has picked up on is texting. I will tell him that we can't play with the phone, mama is just finishing up this text and then I'll put it away. Well the other day he picked up a thermometer and put it up to his ear like a phone and jibber jabbered into it for a while. Then he held it out in front of him and pushed the button a bunch of times saying "text".

On normal days I haven't been letting Ethan play with my phone much at all. He asks a lot but he gets so engrossed in it that it's hard to limit time on it, so we just have been saying no phone. It's very difficult to use my phone around him, so I usually just leave it in the bedroom so he doesn't see it ever. If he ever does start to play with it, I'll let him watch a short video or something, then ask him to push the button on top (to lock the phone) and put it away. Daddy however, carries his phone in his pocket. Steve was checking something quick on his phone after dinner while Ethan was trying to get his attention. Ethan finally told Daddy "Daddy push button on top" and "put phone in pocket" and told him "Daddy enough". You can tell he's heard that one a lot lately. He had decided that Daddy had had enough phone time for the day :)

verse and the potty

Ethan has a couple of things to show off :)

I should translate, his verse is "Do everything without complaining" Phil 2:14. A good verse for our almost 2 year old to try to put into practice, haha.

And he is so excited to go on the potty most days, so I let him. If he goes enough that I feel it is "safe" I let him wear big boy undies around for an hour or so. If he does have an accident, I just remind him to put all of his pee pee in the potty, and put a diaper back on him. I have no idea if this is good pre-potty-training practice, I have been surprised by his self-motivated desire to go on the potty so I feel a little unprepared for where to go from here. Once we get done with all of our travel, I might start training for serious, but as for now he is having fun and I'm glad.

Today is one of those magical days where Ethan played by himself most of the morning allowing me to get my Bible study done with few interruptions, we had a fun time at the library's story time, he is taking a wonderfully long nap now so I got time to put a loaf of blueberry bread in the oven and do a little bit of blogging before he wakes up. These easy-going days are appreciated, and I'm learning to appreciate the hectic ones like yesterday when he refused to nap and kept me on my toes all afternoon :) I do love spending time with my little buddy.

Here are some pics that I've been needing to post.
Grammy B made Ethan a super fun doggie quilt for Christmas! He loves it, and here he is barking at it when he saw it the first time.

The slide that we have has two heights. Daddy just put the extension on to make it bigger. Ethan grabbed the screwdriver (see it in his hand?) and ran around this morning making his other toys bigger too, saying "make bigger" as he searched for screws to tighten :)

Made an ornament at the nursery during my MOMS morning at church.

Totally wowed me by easily picking up how to use a mouse at the library. He is totally focused and yells "Ethan click Elmo!" when he gets to play the elmo game :)

Showing off his Clemson tigers shirt. Says "Clemson Tiger by birth"

So yesterday was an eventful day in Ethan's vocabulary. He says "ok" a lot, following every sentence practically. "Ethan play toys? Ok" "Mama help please? Ok". It first started coming out "ahh-say" and then morphed into "o-tay". Yesterday held more "okay"s than any other form. Steve and I still say ahh-say to each other for okay, and now Ethan has outgrown it. I will miss that word :)

Funny stuff

Ethan just watched me load the dishwasher, put soap in, and start it up. He nodded and said "good job mama".

Bye bye

I really need to be keeping better track of the funny things that get said around here. Ethan's vocabulary is growing daily and he keeps me laughing. Today he was running around without a diaper for a while and when I told him it was time to get a diaper on he stood up and waved to himself and said "bye bye pee pee! See ya soon!"

you know your kid watches too many youtube videos on your phone when

you put him to bed, and after a bit of fussing, starts to sing this song
