the nursery

Ethan's nursery turned out great! Here is a before video...

And here are some after pics. The paint is really more blue than the pics look, they're pretty pale for some reason (at least on my computer they look much lighter and purple-er).

Obviously we haven't put the room back together, and I've got some things that I want to purchase for his room but have been holding off until we painted. So just a few more things to do and it'll be a little boy's room! So if anyone knows where to get cute room darkening curtains, I'd love to hear. :)

bye bye

While daddy is upstairs prepping the walls to paint, Ethan is waving bye bye at everything he sees :)

bye-bye

Ethan waved bye-bye to daddy today for the first time. He did the thing where he waves (opens and closes his hand) to himself and stared at his hand amazed at what he was doing :) It was pretty funny.

We took a fun trip to the hardware store yesterday to pick up a gallon of paint for his room! Stay tuned for pictures to come very soon...

9 months

Our little man is developing quite the personality. I think that he's really starting to get a sense of humor and it's hilarious. He has an infectious laugh, and he's starting to laugh when others around him are laughing. It's so fun to see what he thinks is funny.
This past month he finally figured out what his legs can do, but still can't really stand up for long without his knees buckling. He is also starting to figure out how to use a baby walker and scootches forward in small spurts. He's still only scooting backward, no forward crawling yet, but I think he wants to so it's only a matter of figuring out how to do it. His top two teeth have not made an appearance yet, so still 2 teeth total.

He loves to eat, and yet has lost almost 2 pounds in the past 2 months since he last saw the doctor. I'm trying not to be too worried, he's still at a good weight but it's made me realize that he needs every bit of what goes into his mouth - he's hungry for a reason! He also fully knows that mama and dada eat much cooler things than he gets, so while his baby food is ok, if he can get his hands on what we're eating or drinking it's much better.
Here are the latest stats:
21 lbs 13 oz (70%ile)
29.5" (86%ile)
head circumference 18.5" (90%ile)

And here's a picture of some rockin' bed-head :) Don't you wish you looked this cool when you wake up in the morning!

big development

Ethan stood up this weekend! I know it's something that a lot of kids do quite a while before he did it, but he finally is getting the hang of using his legs :) It's a pretty big accomplishment for him to support his own weight with a little bit of balancing help, and he totally knew he was doing something cool when he did it! I think he surprised himself even more than he did me.

And... how cute are those leg rolls :)

Thanksgiving!

We had a wonderful week of Thanksgiving, seeing tons of family. Ethan got to meet 2 of his cousins for the first time!

We also got to see several of Steve's aunts, uncles and cousins!

And since our whole family was together over thanksgiving, we celebrated Christmas together and opened presents. Ethan was super excited about all of the wrapping paper, can you tell? :)

8 months

Ethan is now 8 months old! He has two teeth still, but judging from the amount of drool that he creates, I'm thinking that will soon change. He truly is all boy. He loves to throw things and watch them crash. He loves to play peek-a-boo and be startled, and has already started sort of wrestling with daddy. I've been working with him on understanding words. He loves his ball, so I repeat "ball" with him a lot while we're playing and will ask "where's your ball?" and he'll look around until he find it, and then smile at us. So I think that he is picking up on a few words, though not trying any out other than jibber jabber. Still working on mama and dada :)

He started doing this thing I call the "cheese face" which is the most adorable thing I've ever seen, I must say. I tried to capture it on video and this is the closest that I've gotten. He looks at us and then scrunches up his nose and eyes while he smiles. It's so funny and I think that he knows it is because he does it all the time and we laugh each time.

We are getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas in our house! It is so much fun to anticipate Christmas with Ethan this year. I can't wait to start some fun holiday traditions and watch him understand why we're celebrating as time goes on.

games

I've been taking tons of video lately because Ethan loves to play games and it's so fun to watch and play with him.

First game that we like to do is give high fives!

Actually the first time he really did it by himself I said "YAY" so loud that it scared him and he started to cry. So now I have to make sure it's a quiet, happy yay.

Next game is one that Ethan initiates most of the time, so it's hard to catch. He started shrugging his shoulders and then I'll shrug back and he'll shrug back at me. It's so funny and random when he does it. In the video he actually shrugs at the same time I do at first, so the camera is jiggling around. I showed Steve what he's doing, so now he does it for daddy too, and actually does it all the time now.

It's so cute, he'll give us a little sideways glance and then shrug, and watch to see if we shrug back. So quirky.

Last game that is so fun, is singing together. I'll post it here, because it's too long for blogger.

Saige visits Ethan

My sister in law Laura got an amazing opportunity yesterday! She won a free makeover from a local salon! Check out her beautiful pictures here. I got to watch my niece Saige and she and Ethan had some fun with each other... well, except for this one moment :(

Don't worry, this next video that was taken literally less than 60 seconds (I checked the time stamp even) after the first one was taken. The situation resolved very nicely and quickly.

Saige decided to eat and Ethan later went down for a nap :)

family visits!

I didn't get the greatest pictures, I'll have to snatch some from everyone else that took them! We had a great visit with Steve's grandpa, grandma, aunt and uncle who were visiting from Colorado this past weekend.

throwing stuff

New skill - throwing. New quirk - touching an object to his forehead before he throws it :)

scooting backward

Just in the past few days Ethan has started to scoot backward :) He looks like a fish out of water when he does it, haha. When I took this video, he had started out in the spot where I was sitting so his little scootches are getting him far!

just cause...

...he's so cute :)

eye color??

Ethan's eyes have been this "in between" color for forever it seems. It's hard to get the true color on camera, but this is a good attempt. They are sort of brown a little in the middle, and greyish everywhere else.

What do you think? Think they'll turn brown eventually? Think they'll stay as is? I've read that they don't change after 9 months, but heard many many stories that tell me differently, so we're waiting to see.

more puffs

I love in this video how he hits his table when he looses his puff :)

eating puffs!

Ethan loves to eat :) And he's getting pretty good at using his hands if you give him food one piece at a time. (when I give him a handful, he gets too eager and tries to get all of the pieces in his hands at once) It's fun to watch him figure it out and get better and better.

7 months

Ethan turned 7 months old yesterday. Big changes this month, he learned to sit up really well, and got his first tooth! Now he won't even recline in his stroller - he sits straight up and wants to look at everyone and everything. He's still the joy of our lives, and we couldn't imagine life before him. Here are some fun bear pictures:
Next, Ethan's pretty excited by a package that arrived this morning... can you tell??
A new car seat!!He is outgrowing his infant car seat and so it was about time to upgrade. I've installed the new one in our car, so no more sitting in a car seat at the grocery store. He's now free to sit in the cart like a big boy!! (Which he loves, by the way, surprise surprise).

Lastly, here's a fun picture of the E man messing around with Daddy during lunch time :)

house projects

I didn't get a before shot, but over the weekend Steve spent some time trimming the overgrown madness that was the front of our house. Here's the after shots.

Many of the other projects are not really worthy of pictures, no one probably cares about dry wall replacement in our garage and replacing locks on our doors :) We are slowly plugging away at them. I guess eventually I will get to decorating and picture hanging. I am still working on draperies for Ethan's room, he has vertical blinds in the window but I do want to get something that will provide some extra room darkening. I'm trying some out and deciding what will work best.
